A Little Buzz - Heavy Bass/fusion/jazz - Sonuus i2m/NI Masive/Ableton Live - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 16, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
This is the first session between myself and saxophonist Matt Telfer - I've wanted to find a way of hooking up a real-time MIDI link between my bass and Ableton and finally found the solution the Sonuus i2M - I think it works great, as you can hear, this is all real time and even though it's monophonic it still works great and if there are a few glitchy notes in there then so be it!

I also got hold of a signal splitter so I can also play a clean channel of bass at the same time so that I have some regular bass tones in the mix - plus it sound HUGE when I have a synth or two plus the bass running at the same time.

My goal here is to use this set up to improvise in real time and loop sections as and when they come up, I selected a few basic samples including the voices and beats but everything else is being captured and processed in real time - we love the sound of this as it combines the energy and excitement of dance music but with the added harmonic richness of jazz and the spontaneity of improvisation. It's early days but we hope to take this out and start gigging soon, possibly with other musicians involved.

Thanks for watching and please leave a comment as your encouragement is much appreciated.
