“bully in the hallway” is a Chicago Indie Rock ensemble that was conceived in December of 2006 by William Kenefick and John Matthew Simon. With the additions of former band mates, and longtime friends, Matthew Jannotta, Matthew Kennedy, and Aaron Levinsky, the band went to work writing their demo which was recorded May of 2007 at Sentient Studios in anticipation for their first show in June 2007. With their multiple influences stemming from punk to jazz to folk to metal to funk to the Eden like plethora of the Chicago Indie Rock scene, bully set out to capture the essence of the greats that had traversed this tricky summit known as the music industry. And they haven’t stopped since: like a whirlwind constantly writing and developing their sound, as well as honing their live show. With the debut of their first “L”P Apples and Sunshine and their recent EP "ADVICE" bully in the hallway hopes to catch the ear, the eye, and the smarts of the musical world.

PRESS
On Magnanimous Corpses: "The track comes from their latest release, Advice EP, and is quite the rocker indeed. It opens with some grungy guitar bends, which leads to some staccato, Fugazi-style vocals before closing with some early Foo Fighters-era Dave Grohl screams. Check out “Magnanimous Corpses” at the left."
-Loud Loop Press-
"Bully In The Hallway plays fast and powerful rock n’ roll in the vein of the Foo Fighters with a bit of some old-school punk tendencies and Fugazi-esque vocals thrown in."
-Loud Loop Press-
"Unadorned and unapologetic, Bully in the Hallway is an indie rock band with love for the Midwest sound. With robust boldness evident in both lyrics and show, the five guys who form the diligent outfit create bratty, quintessential Windy City rock’n’roll"
-VEOBA-
"The truly refreshing aspect of Bully is their tendency to stray from the “yawn” music that dominates the indie-charts of today. (Not that there’s anything wrong with the likes of Grizzly Bear or Bon Iver; I just don’t want my entire iTunes library ending up in a sleep playlist.) This Chicago quintet is most definitely punk rock and embraces comparisons to Fugazi and other staples of the genre. Their first LP, Apples and Sunshine, aims to break ground as a fusion of punk to jazz to funk, and serves as a side dish to the outstanding live shows put on by the band for the past two years."
-Consequence Of Sound-
"Persistence may lead to luck for some, but for Bully in the Hallway, their persistence and dedication to the Chicago scene are turning luck into fortune. Recently releasing their debut album Apples and Sunshine, Bully has been turning heads since their conception in 2006. Their edgy and poetic lyrics, reflective of Fugazi meets Sunny Day Real Estate, combined with their driving punk rhythms are bringing in the crowds who keep coming back for more."
-Novem Life Interview-
"Chicago rock band Bully in the Hallway started out as a series of little white lies."
-July 2009 RedEye Interview-
"Energy, booze and a pantsless drummer contribute to Bully in the Hallway’s good time."
-July 2009 MetroMix Interview-
"Here’s some nice angry punk to get you going this afternoon. Off their debut album Apples and Sunshine."
-bully on the URB Music Blog-
"Chicago's Bully in the Hallway formed in 2006 and have been entertaining crowds for the last three years. Now in 2009 everything seems to be finally falling into place."
-Orange Alert-
"So, what you're saying is that even though you are an almost-paralyzed, multiphobic personality who is in a constant state of panic, your wife did not leave you, you left her because she". didn't like bully in the hallway?
-Dr. Leo Marvin-
"Born and raised in Chicago, BULLY IN THE HALLWAY have been quietly preparing their debut album and boisterously tearing through sets across the city with their unique blend of aggressive power-punk and mellow, ass-shaking grooves."
-The Empty Bottle-
From Columbia Chronicle
Simon on our album title and the reason behind it's selection. "We always have felt that we were overlooked, and being the second city pushed under by LA and New York. The album title aims at that, and we were like “Hey New York and LA, we do exist."

".there’s no doubt that Bully In The Hallway belt out a solid slice of rock with some serious potential. With driving guitars reminiscent of that classic Chicago punk rock sound and sweetly tortured vocals a la Murder City Devils, it’s quite clear that this is a band hellbent on creating a name for itself in the competitive rock world of the Windy City."FEARLESS RADIO
".Bully in the Hallway had a fresh and funky sound that seem(s) almost addictive." Read more here!
From Delusions Of Adequacy
"For fans of bands like Fugazi, Fifteen, Avail and The Ghost, Bully in the Hallway is a great new addition the Chicago punk rock scene. With these bands as their influences, Bully in the Hallway combines great lyrics, fierce riffs, and an uncontainable stage presence. Bully in the Hallway is a band that deserves some recognition."READ MORE!

"Bully in the Hallway describes themselves as a Rock/Punk/Psychedelic band. They are all that and a whole bunch more." Link to podcast here!
From Rival Fish
"Bully in the Hallway went on shortly after half past nine, and while the crowd was still trickling in once their aggressive punk-rock chords rung out there was a noticeable increase in the amount of street traffic that decided to stop in for some tunes. If you like high energy and some distortion with strong backbeats this band could be for you.Read More"
