Born December 17th 1978, in Oakland California, Phillip Meshekey is Mishikae Doodem, (Turtle clan) Waganakising (crooked tree) Odawak "Ottawa", or Anishinaabek. Sadly a member of the little traverse bay bands of Odawa (Ottawa) Indians in northern Michigan.
On the contrary, in his blossoming adulthood, he has been part of such movements as the student occupation of DQU (Deganawidah Quetzalcoatl University) in Davis; California's only tribal college, under siege by corrupt tribal & government officials. A "longest walk 2" DQ student ambassaor in the spring of 2008. Phillip has since left political activism, centering himself in the arts.
Phillip's work is an evolved fusion of native political activist shapeshifted into an First Nations artist for full potential of expression & resistance. Spoken word poetry complimented by tribal songs. Also a dose of indigenous hip hop, Reggae, and indigenous soul to make for an evolutionary experience. An older compadre named Trudell inspired Phillip to carry on that evolutionary genre known as Tribal voice, which Trudell created with Quiltman in 1982/3.
Phillip has played & spoken in Native communities through out western Turtle island, and also reaching the masses at large venues such as 2009 Reggae Rising,
Phillip has shared the stage with: India Arie, Floyd Redcrow Westerman, John Trudell, Stephen & Julian Marley, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Audiopharmacy, Cempoalli 20, Winona LaDuke, Fred Hampton Jr, Oren Lyons, Sizzla, UB-40, Sly & Robbie, Gentleman, Toots & the Maytals, Taj Mahal, Kris Kristopherson, The Coup, Goddess Alchemy Project, SistaHailstorm, Humble Soul, & Blackfire, and seeks to work with many more. "Must not become the opressor, my activism is by way of ceremony, poetry, or lecture" -Phillip Meshekey -Schroeders publishing 2009.

"Survivors surviving the survival"
no more guilt sin and blame-
since we are all liable-
for being part, or not being tribal-
when something is lost-
something is always gained-
we can pick out lifes colors-
but we can't plot, or construct the frame-
Survivor's surviving the survival-
because when things get ruff-
things usually get ruffer-
the more one blames-
the more one suffers-
what ever doesnt beat us makes us stronger-
earth mother, and sky father-
circle dance forever-
circle dancing in the weather-
above dark skies is a sunny day not being seen-
in society of the dirty claiming to be clean-
with nothing in-between-
Survivor's surviving the survival-
society is 7th generation suicidal-
when will it all stop-
as soon as we can tell time without a clock-
and that time & energy never really quits-
or to understand life and death are Creators gifts-
the universal word for "god" is motheron every childs lips!

John Trudell said after listening to the album"People who listen, should listen to this, people who don't listen, should listen to this, everyone's should listen to this" -National AIM American Indian Movement's chair/spokesperson from 1973-1979, poet, writer, spokesperson.
