Henry Franklin - "Brother Rudolph" - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 14, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
This song is an ode to Rudolph Johnson, composer and tenor sax player, from the upcoming Henry Franklin album "Two Views" (27 February 2015).

Rudolph Johnson, who hailed from Ohio, was generally known as "Rudy," but Franklin says that in the 1970s when they were on the Los Angeles jazz scene together, their circle of friends called him "Brother Rudolph." They met in a private home two or three times weekly for jam sessions and worked together often around town.

He was recognized as John Coltraine's "heir apparent" because of his mastery of improvisation on both tenor and alto sax. (http://www.last.fm/music/Rudolph+Johnson). He died in August of 2007 from complications related to diabetes, but his spirit lives on in this first track.

Lightsey suggested this tune and Franklin agreed, saying he likes it very much because it is such a happy, positive one.
