Rose Blossoms, by Tom Brier - Video
PUBLISHED:  Aug 06, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
Tom wrote this one in 1990 (at the age of 18 or 19), and it was a very popular rag in the early '90s. I think it was the first rag of Tom's that I heard other pianists play. Now, however, I haven't heard it played in well over a decade.

This MIDI file started out as a programmed sequence by the late John Roache. However, his otherwise excellent MIDI files cannot be played on a real piano because he didn't lift notes before restrikes and often (especially in this piece) would have new notes striking on top of held notes. Those work fine on a computer, but to get this arrangement to play on a real piano like this, I had to do a few hours of editing. I think it was worth it, and John certainly would have approved and would have loved to hear his work on an acoustic instrument.

John, who passed away in 1999, was responsible for rekindling my interest in ragtime with his 3-voice arrangements on the Commodore 64 SID-Player program in the 1980s.

You can download his MIDI files at his old website which is still operating in his memory: http://www.johnroachemusic.com/

Recorded at the home of Chip Lusby on his PianoDisc-equipped Mason & Hamlin upright.
