About the Song: "oh my city, so tall and so pretty, I am lonelier with you than I am in the wild.."
I do love my city...don't get me wrong. I just...found a better home once in Asheville, North Carolina. I'm a roots-music girl and the Minneapolis music scene is shaped by the likes of Prince, The Replacements, Husku Du. I wrote the first part of this song a long time ago while riding my bike across the Sabo Bridge over Hiawatha Avenue with the righteous Minneapolis skyline in the distance. It was originally in 3/4 time and bitter-sad. I revisited the first verse almost a year later when asked to write a song about being satisfied. The rest of the song just...fell out of my mouth in a matter of minutes.

About the Artist:

I grew up in Minneapolis, MN, survived Catholic school, then headed to one of the most liberal places I could find on the map - Asheville, NC. Based in Asheville, I toured as a solo singer/songwriter on the east coast through my naive 20's. Now I'm back in Minneapolis, living in the house where I grew up--this time with my own little family. Still deeply influenced by my years in Appalachia, I play and teach guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, voice, songwriting, and piano at the local guitar shop. I have a four records to my name, another one the way, and a fantastic roots band. I also tour regionally - mostly by bicycle!

“Brianna Lane is a star in the making…poised, ambitious, a soul-singer of the first order, and an accomplished guitarist.” - Jim Walsh (Star Tribune Minneapolis, MN)
