Stroke Patient Relearns Speech by Singing - Brian Harris, MA, NMT/F - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 07, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
After a stroke, Peter couldn't speak and had problems even "turning on his voice," says Brian Harris of the Boston neuro-rehab company MedRhythms. Months of music therapy, combined with speech therapy, helped Peter learn to talk again. "We used music and singing as a primer to get his brain going, so that we could then address language." Footage of Brian working with Peter begins at 1:32. "By using melody to engage his right hemisphere, we're actually leveraging what he can do over what he can't do," Brian says.
