The Shannons - Born Too Late (1968) - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 14, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
Possibly the sweetest sounding girl group ever, this is one of my favorite records. I also love the original by the Poni-Tails. Thanks very much to Mary Cowley, one of the members of the Shannons, for these rare photos. She described the last two photos in the video thusly: "(These) two photos are from a two-week tour we did in 1967 to help promote the first amplified orchestra, the Bill Page Orchestra (Page was the lead clarinet player for the Lawrence Welk orchestra). This was breakthrough technology back then-- amplifying instruments without the use of a microphone! We ended the tour with a performance at a NAMM convention in Chicago, which is where Mel Taylor of the Ventures heard us. He became our record producer soon after that."

Original Billboard review: "The Poni-Tails' hit of the '50's gets a smooth updating via this current outing by the well-balanced new group."

Written by Fred Tobias and Charles Strouse.

Did not chart nationally in Billboard, but released as a single in October 1968. The single did chart in the Top 40 in Billings, Montana. Remake of the 1958 hit by the Poni-Tails.

B-side is "Mister Sunshine Man".

The Shannons released two singles and I have posted all four sides.
