On one of my rambles to Joshua Tree, I decided to record a video. The video was for a new song I've been writing that is now called "Well Adjusted Rock Stars Are Boring". I recorded the video at the Kcymaerxthaere Krblin Jihn Kabin; an old homestead cabin from the 40's or 50's. As I set up my equipment to record I was thinking how nice the desert solitude felt, when I suddenly hear the sound of teenage girls approaching, talkin' some naughty teenage girl talk. Three teenage girls walked right up to the cabin. I said "hello" with as much authority as Clint Eastwood. They sort of looked at me as if they hadn't even noticed I was there until I spoke and replied a reluctant "hi", then kept walking into the cabin. I noticed one of them had a hammer and I yelled out "You're not going to mess up anything in that cabin are you?" "No we just have it for protection" they answered. Then they walked off into the desert.

Just as I had removed my banjo from my van and was ready to hit record, I noticed the 3 teenage girls had returned and were sitting in my main camera shot, talkin' away. "You girls ever been in a music video?" I asked them. "I don't know. I've never really thought about it" one of the teenaged girls answered. I’m sure she wanted to think of a more sassy answer, but she did not. "Well if you stay there you're gonna be in one" I stated plainly. I wasn't mad that they were in my shot, I just wanted them to be aware of what was going on.

I am proud of myself for surrendering to this situation the universe was providing. These teenage girls were actually perfect for the song I had written!!! Anyways, I recorded the video with the teenage girls acting silly behind me. Afterwards they told me they like Justin Beiber and rap music. Just as I felt like the situation was getting harmonious one of the girl's grandfather pulled up and yelled out his car window "Sally! Get in the car! You're in trouble!”. Just as suddenly as the girls appeared out of the spacious desert around me, they disappeared. Were they even real? Were they apparitions from another dimension? I may never know, but I’d hope apparitions from another dimension wouldn’t praise Justin Beiber for being so “hot”.

Just for the record, I think Justin Beiber started out on the right track, as an authentic songwriter, but the music industry and the world have turned him into something else now. Perhaps he’s becoming a less well adjusted rock star and will start speaking out against the status quo and I’ll start listening to his music.

You will notice in this video that the girls disappear and reappear. This is because the take I did of the song with the girls behind me was not very good; I messed up the words and some of the banjo playing. After the girls left the scene in Granddad’s car I recorded another take of the song that was way better. I think it worked out good because I like how the girls disappear and reappear just like they did on that fateful moment in Joshua Tree at the Kcymaerxthaere Krblin Jihn Kabin.
