Bokoso!

Bokoso! is a group of drummers who study and play West African Dun Dun and djembe rhythms. This group was started by John and Amy Skoczen in Austin, Texas. Bokoso! is comprised of friends with a passion for the unity of drumming. Bokoso! is an Afro Cuban word loosely translated: "The reunion of your heart to the drum." We are students of African drumming and have taken lessons with African drum masters from Guinea such as Alseny Sylla and more currently with Yamoussa

Camara,who is going to be doing some shows with us. The instruments we play are primarily African in origin and Include:djembe, Dun duns ( African bass drums) with bells attached, congas, shekere, berimbau, Kalimbas, cajon, ngoma(tall African conga drum) and most recently the African Balafon marimba which is so integral to this music. Although our main emphasis is traditional West African drumming, we also do different styles like street beats and latin rythms as well as some congolese influemced music.
