Overview: Describing Blue Hawaii's sound on Untogether is like describing a wet, foggy day in the middle of a snow-covered winter. Everything you hear on this record feels distant, cool and atmospheric; especially the beats and vocals. Raphaelle Standell-Preston's voice is layered and haunting, but whereas her vocals in Braids focused on providing emotional and dynamic intensity, Untogether shows her taking an approach that focusing on using her vocals as an instrument. This wouldn't be possible without the keen production skills of Agor Cowan who definitely knows how to mix beats and melodies. While there are a ton of good qualities presented on this album, Blue Hawaii could have focused more on providing a strong sense of warrant to the listener and making sure track quality was more consistent throughout the record.
