Born on July 1, 1987 and raised in the coarse, poverty stricken streets of Fitchburg, MA, Bennie Gonzalez, also known as Blanco the Future, has emerged as one of the most respected and well-rounded musical artist in this generation. The name “Blanco” originates from the character in the motion picture, Carlito’s Way, “Bennie Blanco from the Bronx” who portrays to be very aggressive, eager for the American dollar, and mindful of his surroundings and environment. With the comparisons to his own life and the character’s, including the same first name, it made perfect sense to run with the alias. Blanco, in his adolescence, was submerged with music and Latin culture to the point where it could not be disregarded. His father, Benjamin Gonzalez Sr., was the member of a Latin based musical band called, “Los Pleneros del Coco”, and often enough, called Blanco to participate on stage with them. Latin dance customs such as the Salsa, Merengue, and Plena were all introduced to and showcased by Blanco for about 7 years with the band. In addition to dancing, he also familiarized himself with musical instruments such as the “Pandereta”(a hand held drum popular in Puerto Rican Music). No matter the assignment he had on stage, Blanco always executed it flawlessly and with immense confidence. Blanco took his artistic abilities to talent shows where he was able to exhibit them on stage alone. It was during these shows that he felt his most high and now is considered an expert MC (master of ceremony) due to the fact of how well he interacts and feeds off the crowd. On the contrary, with all the early music experience, composed of dancing, singing, and instrument playing, improvisation (freestyling) would be the skill first perfected and more impressive to his fans. Blanco’s first hip-hop group, 5 West Clique (5WC), would have sessions called ciphers, where everybody in the group would take turns freestyling for themselves and the audience that the cipher attracted. These ciphers would be another stage for Blanco to achieve fulfillment. Blanco began to record at age 16 and moving forward on his musical journey, he would become part of the talented hip-hop and R&B group, “Vizion”, which was co-signed to him by his older brother, Benjamin Gonzalez, all ready a well known and respected music artist in his own right. Bringing his own unique element to the chemistry of his new found group, Blanco is recognized on Vizion tracks such as, “The Way She Moves” and “I Can’t C U”. These songs and others can be sited on the internet at www.myspace.com/blanco5wc and www.myspace.com/vizionsquad for further interest. He’s also had the luxury of opening up for industry artists like Killa Priest of Wu-Tang, The Shop Boyz and more to come. The picture is clear why Blanco is also known as “the Future”. He has all the necessary tools to be more than just a legit artist. Together with confidence and experience, he is, if not just as good, better than the competition. The appeal that is evident amongst the fans he has gathered, it’s not a question of if he’ll make it, but when.
