The Fender Blacktop Stratocaster H-S-H Electric Guitar improves the already blistering Blacktop Stratocaster HH model with the unusual addition of a single-coil Telecaster middle pick-up amid the full-throttle neck and bridge humbucking pick-ups. A scorchingly formidable guitar that was already extremely versatile thus becomes even more so...

The Blacktop HSH Strat features an Alder body, Maple neck with 9.5"?-radius, topped with a Rosewood fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and aged white position markers.

Powering the Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HSH is a pair of humbucking neck and bridge pickups, plus a single-coil Telecaster middle pickup - all made select-able by a five-way pickup switch. The Blacktop Strat is finished with a three-ply scratch plate (black-white-black), skirted black amp knobs (one volume, two tone) and black trem arm tip, Blacktop Stratocaster bridge and chrome hardware.

One of the smart things about the advancement in guitar amplifier technology is the way that manufacturers have taken on-board the need for guitar amplifiers to achieve sonic excellence even at whisper quiet volume. In days of old, to get an amp to sound like it would sustain ad infinitum you'd have to have every knob, switch and slider on the amp pushed right up to 11 ... Not only would this cause Tinnitus for days after but elderly ladies would bang on your door with broom handles and threaten to call the council's noise abatement division ...

These days, many brands are producing amps that have switch-able power outputs, such as the one we're looking at here from Hughes & Kettner - the TubeMeister 18 which I guess could potentially be all things to all men thanks to the fact that it is all valve and that it can be used at varying volume levels whilst still creating a darned good sound ....

The H & K Tubemeister 18 is an all valve guitar amp head that produces just 18 watts maximum output and can be switched to 5, 1 or even 0 watts as and when required. It has two channels - Clean & Lead both of which have Gain and Master controls to allow you to dial in your distortion sweet-spot. The 3 band EQ is joined on the control panel by a Lead Boost and Channel selection switch whilst the warm, crisp sound is in part thanks to the twin 12AX7 Pre-Amp Valves along with a further two EL84 Power stage valves.

Many thanks to Richie Stopforth for some fine demo playing. xxx
