Billy Idol was born William Broad in 1955 in Stanmore, Middlesex, England. From 1976-1981 he was the lead singer of the U.K. punk rock band Generation X. When the group disbanded he left England for The United States where he found success as a pop/hard rock singer. Idol was very prominent on the airwaves in the 1980's due to the success of his albums, singles and MTV videos. He had a bit role in the 1991 film "The Doors". In 1996 he appeared in a live version of The Who's "Quadrophenia", and played himself in an acting role in the Adam Sandler movie, "The Wedding Singer". Idol made a comeback in the recording studio in 2005 with the CD "Devil's Playground". The following year he recorded an album of Christmas music, "Happy Holidays". He records and performs sporadically today.
