now take understanding and listen up please
about a small Alaskan town by the name of Valdez
They're an Alaskan folk in an Alaskan town
but on a warm winters night they had to hunker down
now the Richardson highway is the only way in
unless you take a ferry or a plane comes in.
but on a january night out at Thompson Pass
11 inches of rain took that highway to task.
the Chugach Mountains laughed as the avalanche came
Keystone Canyon jumped into the game
but at Snowslide Gulch out at mile 16
the Lowe River it decided to enter the scene.
The river stood up and it did decree
"i'm Lowe Lake now, i'm a DAMALANCHE!!"
"HEEYAAAAWWW!!!"
and for the first time ever in history
the river ran backwards for all eyes to see
the lake took it up the middle tried to go for a burst
folks at mile 19, they prepared for the worst.
at the bottom of the lake far from prying eyes
an old abandoned railroad tunnel stood up and said
"hi."
well it took that lake and put it over its knee
and it drained the lake dry, rivers runnin downstream
the ice is all gone and the highway is clear
and the folks at Valdez they cracked open a beer.
Now there's a reason the folks here call themselves Alaskan
They thrive in snowmageddons, volcanoes and Athabaskans
and if you ask Valdez about those 12 days
they'll just look and shrug and smile and say
it was just another day
in the Greatland
