Nataly’s Corner introduces the music of jazz saxophonist Leon Pressley: The first thing you should know about Leon is that he is very genuine about his music. I should know…he introduced himself to me via social media. I must admit…I wasn’t aware of his music prior to our contact…but after listening to some of it on YouTube…I was hooked! A fairly newcomer among his peers, Leon is most definitely becoming a “rising star” on the horizons. The second thing you should know is that you cannot categorize Leon’s music in one genre category. Music critics say his music is a mix of smooth contemporary jazz with a touch of neo or urban soul…as referenced in the album “Soul Stories”. I like that mix and I like the fact that jazz Artist who include that mix will usually seek out songs to pay tribute to the musicians from yester years who paved the way…such is the case with Leon choosing his version of a song originated by the great Roy Ayers!

Leon debuted his first solo album “Lets Fly Away”, an album known for its smooth jazz with a gospel flow [again, showing the diversity of Leon’s music] in 2009. It’s full of smooth grooves that you’ll enjoy. If you surf YT, you’ll find quite a few music videos from this album that were made by my good friends, Rhythmic Excursions and Planet Chill [YT Channel names]. In 2013, Leon followed up with “A Love Forevermore”, an album that could be categorized as a compilation targeted for the romantics. My ears were fined-tuned on the smooth “Autumn Love” and the grooved upbeat “Happy Thoughts”. And in case you didn’t know, the vocals you’ll hear on some songs is Leon, himself. The “Soul Stories” album is Leon Pressley’s most recent release. Folks ask me why my music focus is always on the jazz saxophonist. Well…it’s not really my only focus but I answer them with this: In my opinion, jazz saxophone music is the heartbeat of jazz…always has been…and always will be! Then I mention Cannonball; John Coltrane; Benny Goodman; Stan Getz; Maceo Parker and a host of others…and then they understand. I don’t see why Leon Pressley shouldn’t be up there with the best of them!
