Phantom 3 crash - insufficient RTH altitude set. - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 19, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
At the time, the default minimum Return to Home (RTH) altitude on the DJI P3P was set to 20 meters. Obviously, this is not enough for many environments. I had intended to set 30 meters for this flight, but I put it off and the result of my neglect is recorded here.

Signal lost @2:20 as the Phantom moves behind a large masonry building. Automatic RTH mode kicks in @2:27. The Phantom turns toward its launch coordinates, ascends a bit, and flies for home. Architecture intercedes.

Drone was soon recovered with the kind help of building maintenance and returned. With two chipped props replaced it was flyable. However the camera sheared away at the top gimble arm and the lens cover was cracked on impact.

The video file you see here was corrupt and was only recovered with the excellent help of Ross and his fine product DJIFIX :
