Lyrics below:-
Written by Sylvia Watts in the mid 1970s.......I heard it from "Maypoles to Mistletoe" by Martyn Wyndham- Read

When the lambs are born in the snow,
and the Blackthorn's quick cloud cloaks the grey wintry field,
and the dry twigs defeated as the sap forces through
And the swelling buds burst as the hard dirt crust yields
This is the time I love best.
Chorus:
The seasons of the year, turn and turn again,
Welcome gold autumn, welcome green spring,
Blue summer and white winter rain.

I stand by a clear summer pool,
A chubb's flicking tail spreads a slow rippling ring
And dragonflies hover over fields of green gorse
And swallows swoop low to drink on the wing
This is the time I love best.
chorus

The days grow misty and chill
The red crab apple skin hides the bitter within
The chestnut burrs split at the rasp of my sole
The late swallows preen as they wait on the line
This is the time I love best.
chorus
The frost turns the cobwebs to stone
The puddles and grass crunch under your feet
Winter ale at the inn, prop your boots on the hearth
Raise your glass, draw the blinds, on the wind driven sleet
This is the time I love best.

The seasons turn around
They measure our lives as they measure the years
When you're weary of winter, of rain, wind and snow
Look over your shoulder, spring's almost here
This is the time I love best.
