Pine Bluff ft. Brat Spitt schreven het nummer ‘My Demons, Colours & Reasons’ op basis van het verhaal van militair Juul Platenburg.

‘Tja, voor wie zou ik thuisblijven?’
Jarenlang was hij een binnenslaper. Hij woonde op de kazerne. In een klein kamertje zonder keuken. ‘Een kaal hok.’ Juul Platenburg is communicatieadviseur voor de sectie Communicatie van de Luchtmobiele Brigade. Toen hij na zijn laatste missie uit Uruzgan terugkwam en zijn relatie uitging, knapte er iets. ‘Ik voelde me ontheemd.’

Als journalist van Defensie ging Juul Platenburg drie keer op uitzending. Hij begeleidde journalisten; van NOS-verslaggevers tot de interviewers van Al-Jazeera. En hij schreef zelf artikelen. Een fantastische manier om soldaat tot generaal het hemd van het lijf te vragen en zijn nieuwsgierigheid te bevredigen. Juuls laatste missie omvatte zes maanden en ging naar Uruzgan, Afghanistan.

“Na vier maanden ging er zo’n 1200 man naar huis, er bleef 56 man. Ik was een van hen. Toen arriveerde er een nieuwe lichting van 1200 militairen. En toen dacht ik: ‘Wacht even, dit is niet mijn kamp, en niet mijn uitzending.’ Ik moest toen nog negen weken. Ik had het op een gegeven moment wel gehad met die uitzending. Het was genoeg. Ik wilde naar huis.
