Another excerpt from Theo Radford's ONTv show, "soundcheck". Brian Harris - 8 string bass and Rick Gordon - drums were the core of this unique band that was beyond and above their time. Mamie Fike previously played violin and added an ethereal element to the mix. With that line up, they made a CD co-produced by Michael Stipe around 1993-1994. She left around 1996-97 and they performed for a couple of years as a duo (bass and drum duos not uncommon in Athens). Keyboards, dj, samples, violin would all have added to the textures and layers that were floating around in Brian's mind, but she wasn't replaced. Brian was like J. Hendrix, a gregarious, cosmic musician, totally immersed in his custom made 8-string bass. Rick was a disciplined percussionist and highly skilled visual artist. I wish them well.
