PUBLISHED:  Apr 26, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
A selection of 3 pieces, Tango, Charleston, and Chanson, from 5 Etudes de Jazz (1926) by Erwin Schulhoff. Erwin Schulhoff was born in Prague, Czech Republic on 8 June 1894 into a family of German Jewish origin. His artistic career was influenced by a series of musical transformation/phases and many other seemingly unrelated elements, including Dadaism, Jazz, and Communism. In his own words, "absolute art is revolution." On August 18, 1942, his artistic career was cut short in concentration camp Wülzburg in Bavaria where he died as a "degenerate" composer and pianist.
