Saint-Saens 'Aquarium' ('Carnival of the Animals') - Philadelphia Orchestra - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 22, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Leopold Stokowski made two 78rpm sets of "Carnival of the Animals," in 1929 and again in 1939, though one side of the 1939 set had to be re-recorded eighteen months later. By then, however, Stokowski's contract with the Philadelphia Orchestra had run out, so Saul Caston, the orchestra's Associate Conductor, took over for the re-make, even though Stokowski's name still appeared on the record label. For the 'Avid Classics' CD reissue of the 1939/1941 set, Caston was correctly identified as conductor of three of the numbers, including the "Aquarium" heard here.
