Chad Crummel Philharmonic Snare Drum Performance - Video

Chad Crummel was the Div.1 Winner of the 2016 Modern Snare Drum Competition held in May 2016 hosted by Cleveland Institute of Music and Directed by Tom Sherwood. One of Mr. Crummel’s award winning performances was “Stop Speaking” by Andy Akiho.

In May of 2017, Chad came to the Pearl HQ's studio in Nashville to record this piece on the Ltd. Edition Philharmonic 14x5 20-Ply snare drum he selected as part of his Div.1 Prize package.

Chad Crummel is currently the Principal Percussionist of the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Britt Festival Orchestra. From 2013-2016 Chad lived in Japan and was the Co-Principal Percussion/Timpani member of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra. Chad has performed with the Nagoya Philharmonic, San Antonio Symphony, New World Symphony, Canton Symphony, and performed under the baton of such conductors as Sir Neville Marriner, Yutaka Sado, James Conlon, Leonard Slatkin, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Robert Spano, and Keith Lockhart.

A native of Texas, Chad received his B.M. degree from the University of Texas at Austin and later studied at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Chad was recently named the winner of the 2016 Modern Snare Competition and had previously placed 3rd at the same competition in 2013. In 2011 Chad won the Kerope Zildjian Scholarship Competition and has attended the Aspen Music Festival and the Festival of Contemporary Music at Tanglewood.

Chad was a member of the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from 2008 to 2009 and was an active music educator in the Austin, Texas area. Including working as a percussion instructor and front ensemble tech at Dripping Springs High School when they were named Texas 4A Marching Band State Champions.
