The Beelitz Sanatorium is a photographer’s and filmmaker’s paradise. It was used as a location by Roman Polanski (The Pianist), Tom Cruise (Operation Walkyrie) and others. The buildings, set on 140 hectares of woodland, have unfortunately been exposed to vandalism, and a lot of damage has already been caused. The premises have therefore been closed to the public and are being guarded. I was granted access for just one day and was on my own, so I was unable to accomplish everything I had set out to do. Also, due to frequent light changes I had to take out some shots. Anyway, here’s a first impression, I will certainly go there again.
