Lo-fi video (and audio) excerpt to give just an impression of a brilliant gig from Gilad and his band playing 'Spirit of Coltrane'. [NB: audio quality of live music at Bonington is exceptional thanks to a great acoustic, a grand piano and top audio facilities].
Gilad and his band delighted a full house at this first JazzSteps gig of the Spring 2014 season - at the refurbished Bonington Theatre in Arnold, Nottingham.
The programme notes: "Fresh from his 2013 London Jazz Festival appearance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the great saxophonist Gilad Atzmon will take to the stage for the ultimate interpretation of one of the greatest jazz musicians! John Coltrane is the most influential tenor saxophonist in jazz history. Whether it's his patented "sheets of sound," his rapid-fire improvisations or his bold cathartic wails, no aspiring jazz saxophonist can afford to neglect the music of Coltrane."
