Then -- against the pulsing world of Pekka Kolehmainen's bass -- there's always the letter (whether to the lover lost, or the sixteen-year-old daughter languishing somewhere in another country). A letter which tries to submerge anxiety (or the endless parental 'what if?') beneath its concern for the particularities of an unknown place. Invoking the spirit of Gilberto Gil, we pray that the joy of afoxé and samba reggae may be upon them.
