DESCRIPTION:
Amanda Strydom is one of the best known and most prolific artists in South Africa, having starred in diverse roles in film, TV productions, cabaret, and of course -- her music (which she mostly writes herself). She was nominated in categories Best Female Vocalist in 1997, 1998 and 1999 -- the only female Afrikaans singer in history to achieve this honor alongside divas like Brenda Fassie, Tu Nokwe and Sibongile Khumalo.

Strydom achieved notoriety for her public opposition to Apartheid -- especially after she gave the black power salute after one of her songs in one of her cabaret performances. Consequently she was soon referred to as Amandla in popular culture.

Hoodlied (referring to the Song of Solomon in the bible) deals with the sensual aspects of love. It appears on her album "Hotel Royale".
