You've all heard the tired expression - "You can take the girl out of the country but." There's still a lot of truth in those words, but the same goes for taking a woman out of her element, whatever that may be. Nothing can destroy a woman's passion. Without question, Amanda Wilson's defining passion is music.
Growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Amanda had easy access to traditional folk singing. Taking in that tradition along with the sweet voices of the family she looked up to, she found her own unique sound at a young age. That fervor for creating and entertaining was not far behind.
She began her recording career and allured crowds as the lead singer for "Amanda Wilson and The Old Hat Band" at 15. She recorded 3 CDs by age 18, and had completed a radio promo tour by her high school graduation.
In 2000, a yet bright-eyed Amanda moved to Nashville and enrolled at Belmont University as a Music Business Major. Less than a year later, she had signed a contract with Dreamworks and was working in the studio with one of music's most esteemed producers, James Stroud. In the midst of the project, however, the label's funding went low, and pouring more money into an unknown artist was out of the question. Amanda opted out of the deal and began recording again, on her own label. Small Town Girl, a compilation of songs recorded over several years, was released in 2006.
Although it's been years since she's been active, her music is still being hailed by critics and fans alike. The break from music has only served to strengthen both her talent and her desire to share it with the world.
