This song has been my mantra for the last year. The day I wrote it was the breaking point of a really tough situation I was going through. I remember sitting at the piano and praying. Tears starting running down my face and I started playing these chords over and over again. It was an outpour of emotions and in about an hour, "Rebel" was born. I'm learning that it's OK to have a dream that doesn't follow the crowd and to make up your plans as you go along. I'm still learning and always will be learning, and its beautiful to know that we are all humans going through the same thing together.
The recording of this song was done live with the help of my friends Mark Petaccia, Eleonore Denig and Molly Cherryholmes and the video was directed by one of my best friends, Dallas Wilson in my backyard and hometown of Franklin, TN. Dallas, no one sees beauty around them through a lens like you do. I am such a fan of yours as a human and a director and I'm so grateful we worked on this together. Franklin is where I go when I need to find myself again. I grew up next to horses on my neighbor and friend Joy Griffin Dent 's farm and her horse Tiger and I always had a connection. The opening shot is a real moment that we captured of us seeing each other for the first time in a long time. You'll see my dog Boz running with me through the field, and a flock of birds that we were graced with at the end of our shoot. My friend David Kalmusky let us film the piano shots at his incredible studio that I am always inspired to create in. I am so grateful for these incredible people that have come my way to help me and who have given me the courage to see this dream through ( Graham Whitford , Karen Whitford, Gerry Ken Tucker Ackerman & Leslie Fram) This is me in my truest form and I'm happy to finally be able to share it with all of you.
