Reign Below Damascus (demo) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 22, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
This idea started off as the song name so I knew I wanted A Javelin Reign, Dillinger, maybe Baroness, early Mastodon Call of the Mastodon-ish sound. With Syrian influences. Vocals are mostly black metal however I want the lyrics somewhat intelligible why else do them. A little bit of grindcore squeals but it's not meant to be a pure grind song so very very few.
Wanted a doom, black metal, mathcore with breakdowns (need to work on) kind of sound. Also wanted the drums to be chaotic double bass and the song to have a lot of that dissonant feedback-ish sound. Utilized the Oud in Syrian tuning. (since I do not have any way to play one I just used samples.) It goes with the theme and Damascus being the oldest city with inhabitants in the world it made sense to use the traditional instrument. Along the same category as Prophets of Profit. The language that I attempted was Arabic with a Syrian dialect for this song. It is easier for me to make metal songs wary and the other rock sounding ones I struggled with but will work on as well.

(song is about a man in a war so the oud is basically the bows being plucked and arrows hitting him. He is trapped in a flood beneath the city and so it takes place in a battle.) The use of the bell is the clashing of swords and armor. So no set pattern just chaos. When the Oud is struck last the man dies. The Syrian part is him saying his final words.)

made the logos, played the guitar, bass, and did vocals.
The drums were done with Danny's Virtual Drum 2 and in one take but it's a rough demo so that will be improved on and helped to decide if the drums would be mathcore sounding but it's just random right now. I need to find out how to make better "mathcore" parts.
Used rain samples as well. Mostly heard if through headphones.
The Arabic with Syrian part at the end if heard is me attempting to say "And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil." from The Our Father.

breakdowns are not really breakdowns but I will work on that as well.
Been meaning to do work on this song and am happy I finally got some time.
