An Agnostic's Lament - Live At Rich's House! - Video

DESCRIPTION:
The lament is that it has taken me so long to see life through an agnostic's lens. The resulting freedom is a gift. Thanks Rich for making the song come alive.

AN AGNOSTIC'S LAMENT

Well they told me all the world was heaven sent
But I just couldn't choose faith over experience
I once was blind but now I see, I'm not asking for an apology
This is just an agnostic's lament.

Brilliant icons upon the ceiling shouting all must bow down to him
Mosaic madonnas on the walls of altars hold a child who would die for your sins
My youth was spent in this house of wonder though I failed to answer the call
I learned that fiction moves the human spirit and that fantasy captures all

So Jesus, he returned while Mohammed remained, and the Buddha
Sleeps under the bodhi tree. The Jewish folk are still looking for someone to show
So what's this all got to do with me?
I know that there are things that we don't understand, are we eternal
Or does life go dark. I'm fine either way, it's just not that important
It's this life where we must make our mark

Nature speaks to the depths of my soul in a way that prophets cannot
I don't need their God and religion telling me what is right and what's not
It's plain and it's simple, it's rational too, I just want to be a good man
This holy rhetoric just clouds the mind while it's the Golden Rule that should stand

Well they told me all the world was heaven sent
But I just couldn't chose faith over experience
I once was blind but now I see
I'm not asking for an apology
This is just an agnostic's lament
