A&M Records was founded by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss in 1962 and it grew to become the largest independent record label in America. Over the years the label has worked with artists as seminal and diverse as the Flying Burrito Brothers, The Carpenters, Carole King, Joan Baez, The Police, Joe Cocker and Janet Jackson.

It was reactivated as a frontline label in the UK in October 2006. In 2007 the label contracted Duffy who went on to sell 6 million copies of her debut album, "Rockferry". In 2009 Duffy was awarded with 3 Brit awards including Best Album, she was later triumphant at the Mojo, Ivor Novello and Grammy awards. Since A&M's reactivation the label has signed acts such as The Courteeners, The Horrors and Patrick Wolf; all who have gone on to achieve world-wide success. Future releases are to come from Chapel Club, The Cheek and Daley.
