Charlie Mizza was born "Charles Ryan Mauk" on July 27, 1980 in Fargo, ND to his parents Cathy and Matthew. The first five years of his life were in a very violent, alcoholic household where he heard a lot, and saw a lot. Then, in 1986 his mother built up the courage and left his father and it was just the two of them for quite a while, his mother working over 60 hours a week just to pay the bills. His mother had always encouraged him to explore music, and he did - everything from guitar, saxophone, to the upright bass. Little did he know it would pay off later in life.

Around 1993, Mizza had unknowingly set himself apart from his surroundings with his love for Hip Hop, and dived head first into the art. In spite of being made fun of and even called names like "n*gger lover", and "wigger" in a predominantly white environment, he continued to explore his love for rap music. Around 1995, Mizza had found an infactuation with the darker side of life, immersing himself in the life of drugs, guns, and fast easy money. He continued down the downward spiral until a longer than anticipated jail sentence in 2001 resulting from charges from a 2000 raid by the DEA and FBI. He had ran out of options. He saw no future for himself, and even contemplated suicide while incarcerated. When he finally got out, things slowly started to change, but he had no idea how far this new path would take him.

When Mizza met Jacob Thomas in 2004, they "kliked" right away. The name '701 KLIK' had always been in Mizza's head since he was a teenager trying to rap, but he never found anyone to mesh well with himuntil 2006 when Mizza and Thomas (a.k.a. Jacob Ladda) officially started the group. The two got the extra kick to form the group after a freestyle session at an open mic event with Kipp G. from the "MeAndYouCrew" one night at the Red Raven Espresso Bar in Fargo. Since then 701 KLIK opened up for Bone Thugs N Harmony, Day 26, M.I.M.S., and Skatterman and Snugbrim. In addition to this, 701 KLIK was the FIRST MUSICAL ACT OF ANY GENRE TO MAKE IT ON A TOP 40 RADIO STATION IN THE STATE OF NORTH DAKOTA (Y94 93.7)**, and landed their debut album "The Midwest Movement" on I-Tunes, and still to this day can be heard worldwide.

All seemed well and 701 KLIK appeared close to industry success, but sadly, as with a lot of music groups, opinions differed, musical direction shifted, and trust was lost. Thomas's personal problems and arrogance became to much for Mizza to handle. The commitment, communication, and bond with one another that had once set the two apart from other acts in the regional scene had eventually slipped away. Mizza knew that the group was in trouble, but the hope that Jacob would settle down and see things as they are kept the group going for a whileuntil Mizza felt he had had enough. One night at a M.I.M.S./Skatterman & SnugBrim concert they were opening for in Mandan, ND an attempt of Jacob's to undermine Mizza's talent and ability to Skatterman and SnugBrim, who were talking with the two about bringing them on tour, made Mizza realize that what he once had with 701 KLIK was gone. Additionally, Jacob seemed to resent Mizza for his personal successes as a producer, and the bitterness had started to effect the two's personal relationship. After about a year and a half of this, Mizza decided enough was enough. "I'll always have love for him, but respect has been gone out the frame for a while now", Mizza says. "I'm gonna do music regardless of any bullshit that may come my way. This music is too real to me.it's like a drug".

Over the years Charlie Mizza has earned a strong reputation as a producer, in fact he's rated as the top of the line in the region. In 2008, Mizza landed a production deal with The Lost Angel Crew, a Latino Hip Hop group co-signed under Cypress Hill's new label, Latin Thug Records, and Ill Ego Entertainment. "I knew doing their album was going to be a real test for me, but I also knew that it was going to be the dopest west coast music heard in a while", says Mizza. "They've got raw talent that just ain't heard of too much anymore.with the industry standards now days with the Lil' Waynes, or that Soulja Boy crap that's out there these days it's good to see that true lyricism still exists". The album "Hello My Name Is" can be found on I-Tunes, as well as many other digital music outlets worldwide. Some of the beats that Mizza produced can be heard on songs like "S.D. 2 L.A.", "The Saints", "Grindin", and "Who Said".

Charlie Mizza: Always Free, Little King

"Now's my time to step up and prove that Charlie Mizza's WAY more than just beats", says Mizza. "'Always Free, Little King' is the biblical translation of my first and middle name. It'll only be about 12-15 tracks, but it'll be bangin, I promise". The album will feature mainstream artists such as D12's Bizarre, The Lost Angel Crew's WestKoast, and others that are T.B.A. All production will be handed by Mizza himself. "It's kind of an advantage I guess not having to work production in to a budget for an album," he says. "Besides, I enjoy producing as much as I do rapping. I don't think I'd enjoy hip hop as much as I do if I couldn't make beats". The album will be available on I-Tunes and other online music stores, as well as local music shops. HTML scrollbox
