Kathleen Supové, piano and James Moore, electric guitar: Patrick Grant's Three Times One Minus One (world premiere) uses driving minimalistic layers of dense beauty to propel the music. According to the composer, the piece "began last year as a solo work for Robert Fripp's Guitar Circle Course that was called 'Dude, Where's My Band?' and was elaborated on through sketches until it earned the Beckettian working title of 'To Find a Form That Accommodates the Mess.' A computer meltdown prevented its premiere, so it was shelved until another opportunity—this one, in fact—would arise. When pressed for a title, the name of the fictional R&B duo from HBO's Mr. Show seemed perfect for this finalized version for Supové and Moore, plus track."
