2 Dimes was formed back in the summer of 2001 shortly before the 9/11 attacks. Founders Graham Corrington and J.D. Gibbs gave the band its name after finding two dimes on the ground near where they were standing. The two had been discussing the possibility of the would be group while standing in the beer line at the Vans Warped Tour that year. "The name seemed only temporary at first." says Corrington. "We had created a list of potential band names soon after that, but all of our friends had gotten used to 2 Dimes, so we just kept it." When long time friends and co-workers John Wong (Bass) and Brad Park (Drums) joined up with the group, not only was the band complete, but the chemistry was priceless. After a few jam sessions and a hand-full of house party gigs, the group exploded onto the valley's bar scene with a rapidly increasing 21+ fan base, and a knack for the relentless energy of high voltage punk rock. In the following months, the band continued writing music and playing local and out of town shows. When they were ready, the group headed into the studio and recorded their first EP, "4 Months and Counting." Upon its release 2 Dimes was featured on the front page of the Entertainment section in the Ahwatukee Foothills Newspaper. The Band then went on to win "Best Pop-Punk Band" at the 2003 Arizona SkaPunk Awards, and would later be nominated three years in a row for "Best Punk Band" at the Arizona Independent Music Awards. In Late 2003, J.D. Gibbs left the band mutually to pursue married life in California, and was replaced by guitarist Brandon Wills formally of 80-D. "I met the guys back when they first started." says Wills. "When they asked me in 2003 if i wanted to join the band, i jumped at the chance." With no signs of slowing down, the guys went back into the studio and Recorded their first full length album, "Life Goes On" The album was later reviewed in Get Out Magazine and was given an eight out of ten rating for its quality and taste. 2 Dimes has since been well known for their explosive energy and has often been labled as "Skate-Punk" due to their reputation for performing at most of the valley's known skate parks. 2 Dimes has shared stages with the likes of bands such as the Phunk Junkeez, Authority Zero, Long Beach Shortbus, Kingspade, Voodooglowskulls, Agent Orange, The Queers, Goldfinger, My Chemical Romance, OPM, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Guttermouth, Story of the Year, Greeley Estates, Fenix TX, Ludo, and Warsaw. The group split up in late 2007 before they could release thier second full-length album "asdf", but remains close friends. With some of the members dabbling in other projects, a reunion is uncertain.
