Getting her start in the music biz singing Gospel, she came to prominence when she and Sister Rosetta Tharpe began performing as a duo in 1947. Ms. knight embarked on a solo career in 1951. She recorded a collection of wonderful soul and R&B tunes in the 1950's and 1960's on Decca, Mercury, Baton, Okeh, Diamond and Addit which have become quite collectable among Soul collectors. Marie Knight passed away at the age of 84 in 2009.
