ZEF NOI$E (EMILIO ZEF CHINA) has been playing violin since 6 years old. Born in New York City and raised in Hoboken ,NJ . Currently residing in Harlem, NYC while maintaining a recording studio in Newark, NJ.
Singer, violinist, songwriter and recording artist, improvisor, multi-instrumentalist, producer. Founding member of MUTINY ZOO RECORDS, a recording and production company concentrating on music from Electro, Industrial, Rock, Hip Hop, Psychedelic, Free and Experimental. Mutiny Zoo Productions also does Production management for all types of events, concerts and theater.
Zef was lead singer and a founding member of; Sweet Lizard Illtet (Warner Brothers), ILLNESS, NyQwill & Fleshtest. Has Performed or recorded with; MadHappy, Backworld, Blestenation (Geffen), Genesis P-Orridge, Richard Lloyd, Alan Ginsburg, Bonfire Madigan, PsychicTV, FIREWATER, Alex Elena, Seth Tobocman, Moe. DJ Logic, Suphala, J.Ralph, SPY (Atlantic), Perry Robinson, Herbie Hancock, Philip Glass, John Cage, John Siket, Karsh Kale, Bob Moses, Maceo Parker, Billy Martin, Mike Dillon, Grand Mixer DXT, Adam Matta and many others. ZEF wrote music for "The Art and Crimes of Ron English" documentary from Harvest Moon. ZEF's music has also been featured in other film documentaries, television and tv commercials.
Collaborated with traditional Buryat singers, performed in and composed music for the play, "Warriors Sister", in 2003 with Yara Arts Group at La MaMa Theater in NY.
ZEF often collaborates with visual and multimedia artists as well as activists. Collaboration is key to his creative process, Sound, images and words. As well as being the son of visual artists, He played at an event with Keith Haring at the age of sixteen and has been involved with visual artists ever since. Installations and works with; Ron English, Seth Tobocman & Art For Progress as well as numerous sonic gallery environmental performances.
ZEF's performance ranges from slow and sexy to high energy, passionate and angry. He loves what he does and makes his violin sound beautiful and harsh all at once, emulating sounds of the environment and of nature. "[Zef] approaches the violin and viola with passion and a Rock&Roll attitude as well as the aesthetics of street art and Punk Jazz Improv. "
Currently doing solo performances worldwide with loop pedals and laptop. ZEF expresses a full range of emotion as a singer, a unique string player and a performer of the psychedelic-industrial evolution of jazz and rock music.
In 2009 work on the documentary "the Meaning of Tea" with composer Joel Douek.
