YOVANNI

YOVANNI is a recording artist hitting the music scene with a larger-than-life stage presence, a strong set of pipes and a style that can both woo an audience and lift them out of their seats in excitement. With his Pop Rock and urban electronic dance style, YOVANNI has wowed audiences in the US and Europe with a new fusion of music that is sure to inspire listeners across the globe.
YOVANNI was born Yovanni Medel 1973 in Havana, Cuba. At the age of six, his mother packed the suitcases and moved to the United States with YOVANNI and his brother in order to establish a better future for both her sons. After settling in the sunshine state of Miami, Florida, YOVANNI discovered the world of entertainment by becoming an avid viewer of music shows such as Star Search, Solid Gold and American Bandstand.
In the fall of 1990, YOVANNI auditioned and got accepted into the New World School of the Arts, a prestigious performing arts high school and college in the heart of downtown Miami.
YOVANNI began his 1st year by actively getting involved in stage, film and TV commercials while secretly admiring the musicians that he would sing to in his bedroom.
One day, while in the school's bathroom, a vocal instructor overheard him singing acapella to a song from the schools production of “A Chorus Line”. So impressed with his raw talent, she encouraged YOVANNI to transfer to the music theater department. YOVANNI was immediately accepted into the musical theater program and began his journey into the world of music and entertainment.
In the summer of 1997, YOVANNI decided to follow his life-dream of moving to New York to pursue his passion for music and entertainment. After arriving in the concrete jungle, YOVANNI tried to find work at restaurants to make ends meet. After being fired from a waiter's job, YOVANNI found himself penniless and on the brink of homelessness. Ready to return home defeated, he began singing in the subway for loose change. The song "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers became his crutch and, with it, he lifted himself back out of the subway and into backup vocal gigs for recording artists such as Nia Mone't and other local bands.
It was an appearance at Showtime at the Apollo that really set YOVANNI on his way. YOVANNI took the song that was sustaining him underground and brought it with him to an audition in Harlem. Extremely nervous, he belted out a heartfelt rendition of the song he'd come to lean on and the audience responded with thunderous applause. As YOVANNI became a hot commodity as a backup vocalist, he returned to writing and recording with New York’s most respected musicians and producers. He drew from his experiences in Pop, Rock, R&B and Funk and infused them with Electronica dance music creating a magical sound that we have not heard before.
In 2007, YOVANNI released his 1st single titled “I Want You” an infectious dance song with a killer chorus and a beat that burned up the dance floors across the globe. After doing a promotional tour in his hometown of Miami, the song “I Want You” landed in the hands of Nelson Martinez aka, Dj Trigga Martinez who instantly recognized the talent and passion that YOVANNI has for music and life. Dj Trigga Martinez had a history with the music industry in his early days in New York spinning records at some of the hottest clubs and private parties in the city. In 2009 YOVANNI and Trigga Entertainment joined forces to conquer the music industry one hit at a time.
