A’Jay was born Alvin Johnson II on April 6, 1990 in Baltimore, MD. Even though he was born in the “Land of the O” he was raised with the strong family roots stemming from Suffolk, VA where both parents were born and raised. Johnson seemed to inherit his talent and passion for music basically by being born in such a musically inclined family; with a uncles who sung soul and jazz, cousins who rap, compose, produce, & a mother and older brother who are both songwriters and poets. By being raised in such an energetic, cultural environment it was only natural that Alvin would pick up one think as a child that he could express himself musically, the microphone. With urban music being just as young in mainstream as Alvin, with his mother’s encouragement he seem to study not just the art form but the culture. Whether it was Hip-Hop, R&B, or the “New Jack Swing” of the early 90’s Alvin was focused learning the words, styles, and even the beat patterns to some of his favorites. Around the age of 7 Alvin took after his mother and tried his hand at poetry which later evolved into songwriting (just as a hubby). It wasn’t into the age of 12 that he would take music little bit more seriously. Alvin started realizing his passion could lead him to a highly successful career in something he loves to do, make music. Alvin and Jones remains best friend as they both learn to master their crafts through middle school and parts of high school. At the age of 15, Alvin began doing local shows and promotion for his first released mixtape titled, Frontline Music Presents: Tha Problem Child (which was released in 2006). Alvin is currently a student attending Morgan State University as he evolves is skills, as well as his intellect. With another classic mixtape (The Leader of the New Skool Mixtape) receive a great responds in 2009, Alvin aka A’Jay has got himself a taste of “the good life” and his hungry for more as he preps the release of his debut album “Head of the Class” on Frontline Music Group. With of his pure talent and the passion for the game rushing through his veins, Alvin “A’Jay” Johnson his set to play a major part in the future of Hip-Hop and Urban music.
