If a diva is a female version of a hustler (like Beyonce sings), then Young Nisa is the epitome of a diva. An Ohio native, this passionate Pisces has been hustling in the name of hip hop for most of her life. As a little girl, YOUNG NISA had to be discrete about her love of hip hop, secretly listening to songs her mother would never approve of.
Her love affair began when she first heard Snoop Dogg’s “Doggysytle.” The LBC’s smoothest rapper captured her attention and kept her hooked. As soon as she was old enough, Young Nisa got a job just to support her music-loving habit, buying enough CDs to fill her own music store. YOUNG NISA’s appreciation for the music of the streets developed into a hunger for the stage when she became a fan of the man she considers the best lyricist in the business – Nas. A Nas song inspired her moniker. The lyrics “Nas is the man, Nisa is the woman” gave the aspiring rapper her stage name. “I wanted to be the female version of him, so I took that name,” She explains. YOUNG NISA has accomplished a lot – moving out on her own, and graduating from college. Still, YOUNG NISA’s dream of becoming the female version of her legendary favorite is the one thing she’s eager to fulfill. YOUNG NISA’s move from the Midwest to the Dirty South has had its twists and turns. After graduating from high school, YOUNG NISA headed to Florida for college (graduating with a degree in Audio Engineering); then she hit the streets of the South’s new music Mecca – Atlanta, GA. YOUNG NISA reveals that her experience in Atlanta was bittersweet: “I learned so much. I was so green going into the industry. I didn’t know how to market myself, so I learned that on my own.” Her growing pains did have some positives. YOUNG NISA got the chance to perform with rapper Gucci Mane and for some key record executives; but the buzz she built in the South’s hottest city soon died down and she moved on.
Now a Louisiana resident, YOUNG NISA is back on the grind. Her hustle in her newest city got her a job on a radio street team and then an on-air gig. Now thousands of people hear her voice every night on Shreveport’s KMJJ (99.7 FM).
Though she doesn’t use the radio to promote herself, YOUNG NISA’s reputation for being a beast on the microphone got the attention of other local artists and led her to a friendship with producer BJ BEATZ. With BEATZ behind her, YOUNG NISA started carving her niche in the market, on-air and off. “I don’t say no to anything. Even if the beat or the artist is not my style, I spit. Because I know my voice will be heard.” YOUNG NISA’s fearless, professional and non-stop hustle has finally made way for her first solo release, a mixtape featuring her special brand of hip hop – called SWAGGER AVE. The first single from the album is called “Swagged Out Shawty” and features the man who got the whole nation doing the “Dougie”, rapper Lil’ Will. The combination of the two brings about a new style of Southern rap music that is original, classic and something you can definitely dance to. “I’ve never done a record like this . It was different for me. But I did it just to see if I could, and people like it, “YOUNG NISA says. So what exactly IS a Swagged Out Shawty? YOUNG NISA explains:
“A person that’s cool and confident within themselves, no matter what they have on. When (they) walk in the room, (they) demand attention without even trying. “
That simple answer well defines the kind of woman (and person) that YOUNG NISA is. Even with her petite frame, and looks that could rival most Top Models, it is her undeniably strong swagger that captures your attention – and makes you notice her. And when she opens her mouth – to speak truth or to spit lyrics – you know you’re in the presence of a force to be reckoned with. She’s a business-minded woman who has surround herself with positive people who are making moves in the right directions and taking YOUNG NISA to the next level.
No flashy clothes needed. No make-up required. No additives or preservatives. No shortcuts taken. YOUNG NISA has honest, true talent and a hunger for hip hop that will never stop.
