IT'S HIGHLY APPRECIATED. NINE YEARS AND I'M BACK SIMPLY ORDINARY BUT MY DETERMINATION IS TRULY ABNORMAL. SUBSTANCE, ORIGINALITY, AUTHENTICITY, I TAKE PRIDE IN WHAT I DO FOR MANY REASON. It’d be easy to dismiss Marquel “Young Nik” Brooks as another unfortunate statistic caught up in the life of a gang banging, street villain. After all, the 26 year old MC has spent most of his adult life behind prison bars and once held the dubious title as one of the most notorious members of the Bloods.
“After my father died of cancer when I was 10, it was me against the world and I just lost hope,” says Young Nik. While his chiseled body on his 6’2 frame can serve as a storyboard of his life with over forty tattoos, Young Nik is much reserved, admitting he’s a genuine dude and a man of integrity. However, his metamorphosis transcended his state of being as a gorilla beast into a man with a vision with no room for compromise.
Raised in South Memphis, Young Nik got a taste of rap life from his cellie, Lil T, who wrote the first chorus to one of his raps. Acknowledging he had a little interest in rapping, he became more serious as his time in prison evolved.
Nik’s interest has catapulted him as one of the next phenomenal artist as he uses his broad experiences to express his lyrics through a wide range of metaphors with suspenseful punchlines that amazes all of his listeners. “If you don’t feel me, you have no feeling,” exclaims Nik.
Young Nik has gotten his life on track and this man with astonishing charisma who has earned the lessons of patience and discipline is set to release his debut mixtape, Flattened Out. “The heart always speaks the truth,” says Nik. With a ferocious delivery, lyrical ingenuity and a commanding presence, the world of hip hop will sit on the edge of its seats as the new king of the street will bombard the industry with word of wisdom and hope.
