Malene Younglao is a crowd surfing, stiletto sporting, urban alternative phenomenon. This singer/songwriter is the definition of energy in motion. Standing gracefully at 6ft tall, she has the rare beauty and fiery sensuality of Angelina Jolie, presence of Grace Jones, the down to earth b-girl swagger of a young Lauren Hill and the creative sensibilities of Gwen Stephani.



A native of Trinidad & Tobago and the child of activist parents Malene moved to Brooklyn NY as a child and started writing rhymes at the age of 10. She hasn't looked back since. After studying jazz vocals at Howard University she went on to front her own rock band, Younglao, their musical debut Live at Monster Island was an independent success selling 8,500 copies hand to hand and establishing Malene Younglao as force on the indie music scene. She has played along side artists such as Santogold, Ludacris, Bun B, Del la Soul, Mos Def, Lauren Hill, Amy Winehouse and countless others.



She has been lauded by Complex magazine as a "real life super hero" , "everything wrapped up into one" and " a b-boys dream". Trace magazine compares her to pop icons such as Tina turner and Gwen Stephanie due to her ability to mesmerize audiences and leave them lusting for more. Fortunately, for us, Malene Younglao has plenty to offer.



In 2010 after headlining at SXSW and playing numerous dates in Hong Kong, one being the Loius Vuttion & Diesel sponsored opening event for Simon Birch's Hope and Glory, the largest art installation in Hong Kong history, she was inspired to pen her single Miss America. ode to the antihero . A taste of her debut project Stereotype scheduled for release in the fall.



Producers, Seantre Smith and Dre Knight (formerly of production trio,The Narcotics) have collaborated to create a sound for Malene that she can call her own, a brash and edgy blend of innovative melodies over gritty hip hop drums coupled with bass lines that can only trace their conception to southern strips clubs. When asked what made this project so different from the other Malene replies "It's a reflection of my evolution not only as an artist but as a human being, its a celebration of the flesh and all its desire, its real, its raw, its honest."
