Wynona Carr (1924-1976) was a gospel (and later, R&B) singer from Cleveland, Ohio. Her 1954 recording "Operator, Operator" was later reworked as "Operator" by The Friendly Brothers (1959). It was this latter version that would be made famous when covered by The Manhattan Transfer in 1975.
