The formation of Kick Axe happened in around May of 1976, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. After their previous band, Hobbit folded, Victor Langen, Gary Langen and Larry Gillstrom formed the foundation of this group of recording artists. For the first few years the band spent most of its time building up a reputation in Western Canada's bar circuit.

The core group of the band remained together throughout thick and thin with a few member changes. It was not until 1981 that the band received some sort of recognition internationally, when Playboy Magazine did a music poll talent search. Kick Axe was one of the finalists and the results were that Playboy released an album of the 10 best undiscovered bands in North America. This album is known as the Playboy StreetRock compilation album.

At this time a two song 45 rpm record was released. The record commonly referred to as Weekend Ride/One More Time was Produced by Bill Henderson (Chilliwack) and the late Brian "Too Loud" Mcleod (Headpins, Chilliwack) and was recorded in Water Street Sound in Vancouver BC Canada.

With success as well as failures. often comes music direction changes within a band and at this time the singer was replaced by Milwaukees own George Criston. With the new lineup Kick Axe attracted attention from former management and the attention of record producer and song writer Spencer Proffer from Pasha Music Organization.

With this lineup Kick Axe releases Vices, and the promotional video "On The Road to Rock" and tours with Judas Priest for the Defenders of the Faith Tour, also opening for acts like Scorpions, White Snake, Quiet Riot and sharing bills with another Canadian Music Artists Helix. The remake of the song "30 Days in The Whole" was part of the sound track for the movie Up the Creek.

With the success of the first album the following year Kick Axe releases their second album project Welcome to the Club. This recording was recorded in Metalworks Studio In Toronto and featured the remake of the Beatle's Song, A Little Help from My Friends which featured an ensemble chorus featuring Lee Aaron & John Albani (Lee Aaron Band), Rik Emmett (Triumph), Brian Allen and Sheron Alton (Toronto), Bob Segarini, Alfie Zappacosta, Cameron Hawkins (FM), Cindy Valentine, Ava Cherry, Andy Curran (member of Coney Hatch at the time), Paul Faberman and Peter Budge.

With the release of this album Kick Axe began headlining venues in Canada. Including touring with Whitewolf, Lee Aaron,.

In 1986 Kick Axe releases Rock the World on Mercenary/Epic records without the services of Raymond Harvey, the band remains a 4 piece. With this release the band opens dates for both Rush and Triumph.

This is a summary of the highlights that happened for Kick Axe during the 1980s.
