BOYFRIEND's third mini-album [WITCH] is based on the tale, "The Little Red Riding Hood." The elderly woman with a sly smile is suspicious, but the girl falls into the trap anyway. BOYFRIEND sings about the twisted fate of a guy who inevitably falls in love with a girl. The "witch" theme connects the music to the performance, the music video, and the story. It is surely a memorable production re-interpreting the children's tale into a cruel fable.

The title song [WITCH] portrays the members exactly as they have planned. Though the "Red Riding Hood" theme is shocking enough, BOYFRIEND shows off their color and character with the dynamic song, styles mixing the past and the present, and the performance boasting the group's teamwork. Unlike the early stages of BOYFRIEND when the members were prepped up and dandy, [WITCH] the song and the performance have a deeper, heavier feel to it. BOYFRIEND has stepped up their game and is now fully competitive.

ボーイフレンドの3枚目のミニアルバム『WITCH』は、童話「赤ずきん」をモチーフにした。妙に気持ち悪い笑いを浮かべたおばあちゃんが何か疑わしい。でも知っていながもやられる少女。ボーイフレンドは、すべてを知っていながらも仕方なく恋に落ちる一人の男の歪んだ純愛を歌った。魔女をテーマに音楽、パフォーマンス、ミュージックビデオが有機的に繋がったストーリーテリング。残酷童話を再解釈し、キーワードでつなげたプロダクションが印象的である。

タイトル曲「WITCH」は、今回のアルバムで見せようとしたメンバーたちのキャラクターをそのまま描き出している。古典の童話の形式を破壊した曲が印象的なほどダイナミックな音楽、過去と現在がミックスされたスタイリング、うまく調和されたパフォーマンスまで、完全なボーイフレンドの二次的なイメージを形象化する。きちんとまとめられたキャラクターが初期の彼らの魅力だったなら、「WITCH」は、ステージだけでなく歌も長く視線を引くほどの重量感を与える。独自の領域の足場を用意して競争力を備えたわけだ。

보이프렌드의 3번째 미니앨범 [WITCH]는 동화 '빨간 두건’을 모티브로 삼았다. 묘하게 기분 나쁜 웃음을 띄운 할머니가 뭔가 의심스럽다. 하지만 알면서도 당하는 소녀. 보이프렌드는 다 알면서도 어쩔 수 없이 사랑에 빠지는 한 남자의 뒤틀린 순애보적 사랑을 노래했다. 마녀를 테마로 음악, 퍼포먼스, 뮤직비디오가 유기적으로 연결된 스토리텔링 전개. 잔혹동화를 재해석해 키워드로 연결한 프로덕션이 인상적이다.

타이틀곡 [WITCH]는 이 앨범에서 보여주고자 한 멤버들의 캐릭터를 그대로 그려낸다. 고전동화의 형식을 파괴한 곡이 인상적인 만큼 다이나믹 한 음악, 과거와 현재가 믹스된 스타일링, 단단한 합을 그려낸 퍼포먼스까지 온전한 보이프렌드의 2차적인 이미지를 형상화한다. 초창기 단정하게 꾸며진 캐릭터가 이들의 매력이었다면, [WITCH]는 무대뿐 아니라 노래 안에서도 길게 시선을 끌고 갈만한 무게감을 준다. 독자적인 영역의 발판을 마련해 경쟁력을 갖춘 셈이다.
