Lifelong Washingtonian and proud Prince George's County, Maryland native, Mash Comp, has been a proponent and practitioner of Hip Hop music and culture for well over two decades. Like many young people who discovered Hip Hop at a young age, Mash took on the varied styles and rhythms of the time and immersed himself to the brink of fanaticism. A self-described "Fan First, MC Second", Mash has studied from a great range of masters along with his chief influences such as Rakim, KRS-1, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap and Slick Rick. Taking on the best of what these great rhythmic poets possessed, Mash took the long journey of trying to find his voice -- when in 1995 he found success in verse after many failed amateurish attempts at freestyles and written verse which finally took root.*****Fast forward to 1997 and we find Mash Comp toiling on a compilation with the mega-crew, Homeless Society -- a 13-man unit of boundless talent but lacked the necessary focus. With the project doomed from the start, Mash Comp took a brief hiatus from emceeing and turned his energy into becoming a well-known music and social critic for several print and online publications -- a craft he still undertakes today (please see www.blackpolicy.org for more info). In 2004, Mash Comp's career took a serious upswing with the introduction of a Philly/NJ-based producer Haji Haj of Dumhi Productions. Already a member of a 2-man group, RebelSlave with his cousin, Jah Black, Mash's focus was disjointed and unclear. But at that time, Mash and Haj decided to embark on a series of recording sessions that later proved fruitful. The RebelSlave project was put on an amicable hiatus while Mash worked on the upcoming dumhi venture. Upon the initial meeting with Haj, Mash and the talented producer forged a musical chemistry that eventually developed to the release of a group project titled VOTE DUMHI (read more here: www.myspace.com/dumhi). With notable fanfare and brisk sales of the debut CD, the group released their critically-acclaimed sophomore LP in 2006 titled THEY CALL ME BRUCE (Which can be purchased via Itunes and also by visiting www.dumhi.com). In 2007, the dumhi crew released its excellent 3rd CD titled THREE SETS FROM HEAVEN. ******Armed with a newfound energy and direction, Mash Comp is readying himself for a new project: The Mash Compilation -- an LP featuring several musical platforms from various producers such as Young Raven, D Dot Funny, TheJake, Jaimz Wurthee and Steel Town Sounds. Hard at work on this solo project, Mash Comp's star doesn't seem to be fading anytime soon. Be sure to also check out Mash Comp's supercrew, The Inklings Massive (www.myspace.com/mycrewisnice).
