Wilderness has been an idea since the late nineties, when all of the members moved to Baltimore by way of St. Augustine & Daytona. In between there was traveling - to California and back. Sometimes together, sometimes apart.

It all seemed to materialize completely around 2001, when a few shows were played locally (opening for Lungfish, notably) and 3 years of recording began. These recordings would eventually become the 1st LP, released by Jagjaguwar in 2005. More shows were played and the pendulum was in full swing, bearing new material, and very quickly their 2nd LP, "Vessel States" was released in 2006.

Wilderness hibernated in 2007 only to awaken and begin again in March 2008, when they debuted all new material for a piece at the Whitney Art Museum. This became "(k)no(w)here", and sparked a tour in support of this endeavor.

Their songs touch on numerous themes like living through the end of capitalism, the beauty inherent in beauty, staring at the sky, listening to the woods, feeling the landfills topple and swell, vibrations in the market place, collective brain harvesting and the absolute falling all around the opinionated as the opinionated fall all around the absolute.

+ - + - = - + - +.
