Whetherman is the melodic folk project of Independent 28 year-old singer/songwriter Nicholas Williams, a Midwest native who now resides in the Southeast. Under Whetherman, Williams has self-released five musical works of effervescent and easy-going acoustic tunes, with a full instrumental LP on the way this coming Spring. During 2012, Williams ventured from coast to coast on the "Ears and Eyes" To
ur. The route spanned more than 80 shows, across 14 states, over 4 months. Channeling the best of artists like Paul Simon, Jackson Browne and Neil Young, this emerging songwriter is making his presence known through tireless performance schedules and continuous releases of comfort tales. Whetherman's music attracts folks ranging anywhere from teens to toddlers to senior citizens, and has been well received abroad as far as Malaysia and especially in Europe. His songs are warm and gentle, providing an internal landscape with insightful lyrics and beautiful texture.
Since June of 2007, Williams has released four full-length albums: "Bull" (2007), "The Great Lull" (2008), "Nooks and Crannies" (2010), "Wind in the Trees" (2011) and most recently a stripped EP "Mouth of Eden" (2012). The first two albums were under distribution deals backed by Adorable Records, an independent label based outside of Detroit, MI, which Williams remained signed with until 2008. Williams then chose to be completely Independent, booking all dates, creating merchande, managing artwork, arranging press/promotions and continuing to record every album on his own dollar and time.
After a move to the Southeast in 2009, and upon releasing the third Whetherman title, Williams began to perform with a few local and diversely talented musicians, who have since grown into group of up to 7 different performers, called "The Steady Melodies". The ensemble is made up of University of North Florida Musical/Jazz Studies Alumni as well as influences of Bluegrass, Latin, Soul, and the Blues. Currently, The Steady Melodies are comprised of: JP Salvat (Percussion), Alex Hayward (Drums), Rachel Murray (Vocals), Adam Mantovani (Bass), Dan Evans (Mandolin, Guitar), Drew Matulich (Mandolin, Fiddle, Guitar), as well as Angel Garcia (Keys). They are normally featured at larger shows and festivals, and can include any combination of members while maintaining the appeal of Whetherman's music artfully established prior.
Williams is currently in the studio preparing the next full length LP, the first to include 'The Steady Melodies' that will be titled "Streams and Pastures" (Spring 2013). Whetherman is performing exclusively in the Southeast and Midwest regions until hitting the road again for an East Coast Tour in Spring, 2013. His most recent work, EP "Mouth of Eden" is now available to the public for FREE download at: whetherman.bandcamp.com/
All of Whetherman's music is available for download on iTunes, Facebook, Bandcamp and Amazon.com. Physical copies of "Wind in the Trees" (2011) and "Nooks and Crannies" (2010) can be acquired at live shows, as well as merchandise and special offers!

"Fame is but a fruit tree
So very unsound
It can never flourish
Till its stalk is in the ground
So men of fame
Can never find a way
Till time has flown
Far from their dying day
Forgotten while you're here
Remembered for a while
A much updated ruin
From a much outdated style
-Nick Drake

This is where I have always been coming to. Since my time began. And when I go away from here, this will be the mid-point, to which everything ran, before, and from which everything will run.
