-Biography-

"The collaboration that is the Wayword sound calls upon traditional bluegrass and uses it as a catalyst for musical experimentation that ventures into a host of elcectic musical genres and in return offers a sound that is progressive in nature, and sacred in root."

Stemming from a collection of original songs written by famed bluegrass writer Benny Burle Galloway, The Wayword Sons are poised to become the next big thing in the realm of acoustic music. Their genre-bending sound represents not only a tradition of bluegrass story-telling and melodic nature, but, more importantly, a belief in a collaboration and spirit that invents new genre traditions. The collaboration that is the Wayword sound calls upon traditional bluegrass and uses it as a catalyst for musical experimentation that ventures into a host of elcectic musical genres and in return offers a sound that is progressive in nature, and sacred in root.

Since forming in the fall of 2005, The Wayword Sons have made a large impact throughout the country. In the bands short existence, they have been from coast to coast and have been invited to play such reputable festivals as The Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where they wowed the audience with their mainstage set and sold out a NightGrass show in town, The Northwest String Summit, and The Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, where they were called a favorite new band to the festival's huge, diverse audience.

Many know Galloway for his contributions as the sole writer to Yonder Mountain String Bands 2003 Old Hands, their best-selling album to date. But, in this go round, Galloway's master songwriting is the voice of Colorado-based acoustic quartet, The Wayword Sons, not only through his familiar vocals, but also with his talents on the bass and guitar. Accompanying him is Anders Beck (Dobro) who brings his successes from the former 2003 Rocky Grass award-winning band, Broke Mountain. Pete Kartsounes (acoustic guitar and vocals) bestows his soulful and melodic vocals accompanied by his seamless and inspiring guitar technique. Finally, to truly showcase the depth of The Wayword Sons, Greg Andrulis keyboarding compliments the new sound. The result is anything but ordinary.

The groups's first album,"Poor Boy's Delight," a genre-bending collection of original songs, was released nation-wide on Hamshack Records on August 8th, 2007. Representing a combination of soft, tender tunes that spill into intense jams, this album speaks to The Wayword Sons success and showcases their ability to play host to a fusion of many new sounds. This fresh new musical experience is not to be missed!

Though the band is newly formed, many music fans find familiar faces and sounds in the Wayword Sons. Benny's musical association with Yonder Mountain String Band, whose 2003 recording, "Old Hands," features only songs written by Benny, has made him a cult hero among Yonder's multitude of fans. Benny has handpicked a cohesive unit of some of the finest young musicians in the country to play his music the way it that should be heard.

Bound by the love of songs and the chance to play them together, The Wayword Sons are an unlikely combination of old and new, sweet and salty, part folk, part bluegrass, part jamband. The Wayword sound is as creative and unique as it is hard to define.

The Wayword Sons are: Gregg Andrulis, Anders Beck, Pete Kartsounes and Benny "Burle" Galloway.
