Violet Samudra is a fusion of passions from the East mixed with sounds from the West. Fronted by guitarist/composer Steve Booke, the band blends sounds from the Middle East and India to arrive at a very unique musical place.
Steve Booke, known for film and television soundtrack work is a graduate of Berklee College of Music. He has appeared on countless recordings with noted musicians from around the world. His music is used extensively on popular cable and network shows such as the Oprah Winfrey Show, A&E, Discovery Channel, VH-1 and MTV.
Dibyarka Chatterjee was born in Kolkata (and spent first 10 years of his life there), where he was already performing for the All India Radio as a child prodigy. Shortly afterwards, he moved to the U.S. with his family, he was recognized for his talent by music lovers and tabla enthusiasts and started performing with his father (Samir Chatterjee) and in group performances composed and directed by him. Beside these, he has also performed with the Dance Theater of Harlem, NYC, with the Battery Dance Co. in “Songs of Tagore”, with Janaki Patrick in “Ka-Tap”, with Smt. Lakshmi Shankar, Pt. Ramesh Mishra, Pt. Samarendra Sikdar, Smt. Shubhra Guha, Sri Partha Bose, Sri Debojyoti Bose, Sri Snehasish Mozumder, Sri Anirban Dasgupta, Smt. Tripti Mukherjee, Steve Gorn, Hidayat Khan and others. He has performed in some prestigious venues like the Indian Consulate (NYC), City Center (NYC), Lincoln Center (NYC), World Bank Auditorium (DC) as well as many others.
The combination of these musicians, their training and influences make Violet Samudra a very unique, soulful and spiritually healing musical experience. After hearing the music the listener will feel what few words can describe.
